Campus Involvement as the Key to Success!

ACE students discussing policy.

As a junior in Financial Planning, I have been becoming more invested and involved in my area of study. One of the best things I have done to achieve this is to become more involved in activities on campus.

I joined Financial Planning Club at the beginning of this year so I could interact with other students who were also in financial planning. In Financial Planning Club, they offer many opportunities for growth and development within the financial planning industry as well as chances to talk with experienced professionals. Recently, the club hosted a skill development meeting where we shared interview tips and stories as well as resume advice. My favorite thing that I’ve gotten to do is visit financial planning firms in the Chicago area.

One of these visits offered a panel of professionals from a number of firms. They were able to talk about their varying experiences as each of their firms had a slightly different focus. Another firm visit allowed us to talk with entry-level analysts so we could get a better idea of the type of work we would do right out of college. Then afterwards, we had a rare opportunity to talk one on one with financial advisors with years of experience in the industry.

It is opportunities like this that make me so glad I am a part of ACE. There are so many chances for hands-on learning and real world involvement to make me a qualified candidate for future employment.
