Brad Pilcher
I learned many valuable life lessons in my internship, lessons that will help me become a better person and a better salesman.

Profile: Brad Pilcher

Undergraduate Student

A summer internship experience has turned into a permanent sales job for Agricultural and Consumer Economics student Brad Pilcher.

The opportunity to spend a summer working for Monsanto was a perfect fit for Pilcher, who grew up on a farm in central Illinois. Agriculture runs in the blood of this former Illinois state FFA president who recently accepted a permanent position with Monsanto starting in May.

Pilcher worked on the U.S. Channel Marketing Team Bio Future Access Tour. During his three-month internship, he served on Monsanto’s marketing team traveling across the country to deliver presentations in places such as Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa.

Working on this tour allowed Pilcher to practice his communications skills while creating networking opportunities. His main tasks included promoting Channel, sharing Monsanto’s vision and building relationships with customers.

Before his internship, Pilcher considered a career in production agriculture. However, this opportunity opened his eyes to industry careers.

Being able to work with multiple sales teams was beneficial to Pilcher because it allowed him a greater opportunity to address problems.

He spoke to area business managers, customers and dealers during his internship. Working with different audiences stressed the importance of good salesmanship and creating relationships.

“I learned many valuable life lessons in my internship, lessons that will help me become a better person and a better salesman,” Pilcher said.
