Many of the topics discussed in an agribusiness class that I took last spring provided me with a great base knowledge for my experiences as a crop insurance intern with Farm Credit Services.

Lucas Frye said the University of Illinois College of ACES allowed him to combine two unique interests into one major – agribusiness.

“Growing up on a farm allowed me to develop a strong appreciation for the agricultural industry, and I knew that I wanted to focus on an area within the wide scope of agriculture,” Lucas said. “At the same time, I have always had an interest in financial sector of the economy.”

He said the U of I is also one of the best federal land grant universities in the country with business and agriculture curriculums that rank within the Top 10 programs in the nation.

“The majority of our U of I classes are directly applicable to real-world experiences,” he said. “Many of the topics discussed in an agribusiness class that I took last spring provided me with a great base knowledge for my experiences as a crop insurance intern with Farm Credit Services.”

Lucas said he appreciates being surrounded by industry leaders in ACES.

“It’s not unusual to read about a new U of I discovery or an expert analysis by a U of I professor,” he said. “This fact, along with Illinois’s many rich traditions and historic campus, truly makes being an Illini something to be proud of.”
