For Matthew Briscoe, the best part of his job is visiting with customers. “Getting to know my customers at a personal level is not only enjoyable, but I believe it makes it easier for them to trust my advice on the direction I see the market heading.”

Matthew, the assistant manager with ADM in Sullivan, Ind., said his customers can also trust his education, work ethic, and moral code. “My University of Illinois education and hard work have helped me excel within ADM. I also believe that sticking with my gut and having proper ethics have helped me make quality decisions that are best for the overall picture.”

Matthew said the College of ACES helped him find his career path. “During my freshman year, I had no idea what I wanted to major in but with the help of the discovery courses, I found an area that I felt I could succeed in.”

After he settled on a degree in agricultural and consumer economics, Matthew took every class he could in commodity markets and farm management.

“I received a well-rounded education that included courses in computer technology and technical systems management,” he said. “Yes, there is some learning on the job, but a degree from Illinois gives you a great head start on being prepared for the world ahead.”
