Farm Manager

Reid Thompson describes his job as "farming without the tractors.”

“I get to work with many different types of landowners and farm operators, and I get to do it in two different states, Illinois and Indiana,” he said.

In addition to being a farm manager, Reid is a licensed real estate broker and auctioneer in those same states. He works with people who want to sell, acquire, or auction farm real estate.

“Real estate goes right along with being a farm manager,” he said. “Given the enthusiasm for the farm real estate market over the last two years, it has provided a lot of excitement in my short career.”

Reid said his willingness to explore new opportunities has helped him excel. “Because I have been willing go outside of my comfort zone, I have been a part of many exciting opportunities that continue to open new doors and advance my career.”

The College of ACES helped instill that “go for it” quality in Reid. “From being on the homecoming planning committee to traveling abroad for an internship, the university definitely helped me become the person I am today.”

ACES also provided him with the tools and the knowledge to be successful, but what he now appreciates most were the people he met.

“I felt like I knew almost everyone within the College of ACES,” he said. “The family atmosphere that the college creates makes it feel like home.”
