Career Possibilities

A career with a degree in Agricultural and Consumer Economics will lead you anywhere in the globe, everywhere from a Fortune 500 company to the local bank, and in ventures from development economics to wealth management.

ACE graduates experience more than just the theory of economics, or how to manage a large consulting client list.  They learn practical applications of economics in the food, environmental and consumer industries.  Our students spend time with those who are influencing the industry from global leaders in agribusiness and finance, to influencers in policy nationally and internationally.  A U of I ACE degree will give you diverse career opportunities, grow your knowledge of the food, consumer and environmental sectors, and prepare you for a career as global or as local as you want.

  • Most graduates in ACE got a job or landed safely at a graduate school program in the last three years.
  • Seventeen percent of ACE majors pursue an advanced degree or a certification like the CPA  or CFP(C)

ACE has an emphasis on Career Skills:

  • Technical Skills for consumer and food operations.
  • Human Interaction Skills to work effectively with others in the industry.
  • Communication Skills to write, speak, and listen successfully.
  • Decision-making Skills for a global marketplace.
