Why ACE?

ACE and ACES: What's the difference?

What is the difference between ACES and ACE? Great question!

At Illinois, students apply and are admitted directly into a major. Each major is housed in a college (think: academic community). Students in the Department of ACE are majoring in ACE (Agricultural and Consumer Economics) and have a concentration. ACE (the major) is housed in the College of ACES (Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences). In short, all students are studying at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The College of ACES is the academic community in which the Agricultural and Consumer Economics major lives, and students in ACE get to choose a concentration within that major.

Considering a major in Agricultural and Consumer Economics? Here are a few other reasons why you should choose ACE.

  1. Competitive scholarships and financial opportunities. Many scholarships are available to our students. A single application allows you to be considered for all scholarships.  In addition, the University of Illinois Office of Financial Aid awards other financial assistance from federal, state, university, and private resources to help defray education expenses.
  2. Flexible programs. ACE’s flexibility works to your advantage. As an ACE major, you may complement required courses with classes outside the concentration from other programs in ACES, the university, and even around the world.
  3. Hands-on learning opportunities. Executives and professionals visit our classes regularly. Students engage in case studies where they can apply knowledge to real-world situations. We recognize the value of learning by doing!
  4. Study Abroad. Because of the flexibility afforded to ACE students as well as the major's focus on hands-on learning, students are encouraged and empowered to study abroad. In addition to the myriad opportunities offered through ACES Education Abroad and Illinois Abroad & Global Exchange, ACE students are able to take advantage of a unique opportunity to study abroad in West Africa through our programs affiliated with Njala University in Sierra Leone. Additionally, the International Business Immersion Program is a course-based program designed for undergraduates in their sophomore and junior year.   For more information visit ace.illinois.edu/ibip.
  5. Award-winning faculty and mentors. Our faculty are leaders in their field and work one-on-one with you to help you achieve your future success. Receive career direction from college leadership and develop a network that will help take you places.
  6. Abundant career opportunities. ACE has a proven tradition of turning out leaders not only in Illinois, but also throughout the world. Our graduates are in demand by employers and other academic institutions because of their unique and diverse skill sets.
