This past winter break, I had the experience of a lifetime as an ACES student studying abroad in Cape Town, South Africa. The study tour was full of service learning at an agricultural work site, tourism, and immersing ourselves into the culture.

These points have allowed me lots of flexibility in booking 5 roundtrip flights for more than half of what everyone else is booking them for. I haven't paid more than $59 for a roundtrip flight since I've been in Europe and I've booked tickets as little as 4 days in advance (spontaneous trips are the best ones, right?).

This year how ACE stood out to me was the career advice and opportunities they were able to offer me. I came into this year not sure what I was going to do after graduation; I wasn’t even sure which field I wanted to go into. Luckily, I was able to find some help within ACES, especially the ACE 341 career opportunities class.

From joining ACE Club to studying abroad and from looking at real-life case studies to doing academic research, the opportunities are many and varying. My experiences here have made me grateful for being in the Department of ACE.

The greatest experience I had as an ACE student was the academic opportunity to devise an independent study. Last semester, I constructed an independent study with ACE Instructor Jon Scholl. The class counted as credits towards graduation and was labeled ACE 295: Managing a Central Illinois Farm.
