Comparing ACE to BUS majors

ACE students discussing policy.

My name is Zach Kahley and I am a Junior in ACE with a concentration of Finance in the Agribusiness. If you were to tell me that I would be graduating from The University of Illinois in the College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences I would have chuckled. After transferring here from a small college in Naperville, IL with a prior double major in Finance and Economics,

I know a lot of students do not understand everything the ACE major has to offer and how to compare it to a Business major when explaining to others. When I personally had to try and explain what my major really entailed to friends, family members, or companies I did not exactly know how to go about doing so. That was until I visited my advisors within ACE, who truly open my eyes to ACE and all the opportunities they have offer.

Being involved in ACE, you are given the opportunity to complete all the core business classes that a student would go through in Business. On top of that, you are able to take other courses and electives of your personal preference that have an emphasis on a technical area, such as food, consumer issues, personal finance, environmental policy or international development. The best thing about this is that you have the skill set to work in a job in business but you also have the skill set to work in your applied area of choice. Once you realize this and you learn about all the opportunities your career path could lead you to, I am confident that you will be more than happy that you are pursuing a major in ACE.
