Study the principles of personal finance in topic areas like investments, tax, retirement, estate planning, higher education planning, general cash flow principles, and risk management. You'll master the domains, processes, and ethical standards required to become a financial planning professional.

Do

Compete in national financial planning competitions and network within organizations like the Financial Planning Association and the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants. You'll participate in the largest Financial Planning Career Day event in the country and join an active financial planning club focused on interdisciplinary collaboration.

Advance

Graduate with the qualifications needed to sit for the Certified Financial Planner™ exam. Upon passing and meeting the experience requirement, you'll hold the CFP® designation, readying you to serve as an expert wealth manager, investment advisor, or insurance agent.

 

Students who entered the University of Illinois during Fall 2026 or prior were admitted to our old major structure, which included one major and nine concentrations. You can learn more about those concentrations here. Students majoring in ACE: Financial Planning are permitted to apply to transfer into the new curriculum.
