Helping Students Succeed
Imagine you are in line for food or coffee, and once you reach the window to pay you are told that it has already been paid for and to pay it forward! The feeling of helping and making a difference in someone’s day is nearly indescribable. Being part of the College of ACES has exposed me to many of these opportunities. All of April the Student Advancement Committee held a scholarship campaign to Pay It Forward, students helping students. During this campaign our events team, which I was a part of organized three events, which will make a difference in many students’ lives. Seeing all your hard work come together and raise over $6,000 in one night to provide scholarships was an indescribable moment for myself. I can’t wait to see how these scholarships help my classmates exceed.
As our school year comes to and end, I have began to have the realization that all of my experience have prepared my leadership skills to enter the workforce this June. As a transfer student, I have had a crash course of getting involved in leadership positions rapidly! I don’t regret one bit of it. Not only did I help plan Explore ACES for two years, but I planned a scholarship campaign with SAC, served the department as an ACE Ambassador, and became involved in numerous clubs. I believe only College of ACES at The University of Illinois could have offered my all of these opportunities, which have allowed me to grow personally and professionally.
You may wonder what’s next? I will be moving Kansas City, Missouri and working in Overland Park, Kansas to continue my passion for agriculture. Cargill is where I will call home until further notice! It's a big change, but I know this experience will come with rewarding challenges and opportunities. Hope everyone has a great summer and is looking forward to their time in the Department of ACE.
