Not Just Another Number In The Crowd

Claudette Reyes

As I’m half way through my junior year, I’ve realized a lot of important things and the College of ACES has helped understand them. I transferred to the College of ACES my sophomore year and was welcomed with open arms. I didn’t  know in what direction I wanted to in with my major in Agricultural Consumer Economics, or ACE. But with all the wonderful staff and resources within ACES, that has all changed. My advisor Ann has been such a big help throughout my career guiding me. The ACE department isn’t just another department within ACES, but a home to me. I knew I wasn’t just another student in ACE, advisors, professors and other students want to know who you are and want to be involved with your interests. When I came back to campus after being abroad second semester sophomore year, I knew there was more I could do to get involved and give back to the College of ACES. I decided to become an ACE Ambassador and ever since I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Being an ACE Ambassador has not only helped me get to know other students within my major, but a change to give back to ACES. With the tours offered to both prospective and admitted students, I’ve felt that I’ve given the best advice about everything I’ve learned throughout my college career. Just this past weekend I attended the admitted student luncheon for the College of ACES at Magiano’s in Oak Brook. It was one of my favorite events because I got to spend an afternoon getting to know future ACE students and answer all their questions about ACES and Illinois, in general. I knew how nervous they were and could relate because I was once in their shoes. Sharing my knowledge and past experiences is the best gift I could give to these students and the College of ACES. So I hope that they decide to come here and make their own path within ACE. I can’t wait to see what the future for these students and myself has to bring!
