Celebrating The Past

ACE students discussing policy.

“Celebrate the past to awaken the future,” –John F. Kennedy

With finals approaching, many of us are struggling to find the positives in our academic careers. Rather than looking back on the semester and wishing you would’ve studied just a little longer, we should think about the accomplishments we’ve made this semester and celebrate how far we’ve come.
Looking back on my first semester of junior year, I have learned so much about myself and the College of ACES. The College of ACES goes above and beyond to help students succeed both academically and professionally. This year I was introduced to many great ACE courses that not only inspired me to learn but also helped with my professional life. This year the most influential course I took was led by my advisor, Theresa Miller.  This course, ACE 341, is designed to prepare Consumer Economics and Finance students with the skills needed to succeed in a variety of career paths. ACE 341 was unlike any other class I have taken in college; instead of listening to a Professor recite a PowerPoint presentation, Theresa invited many professional sectors to speak with students about the wide range of career opportunities we have as Consumer Economics and Finance majors. As a junior, my main priority this year was to obtain a summer internship; which, this class has led me to obtain. By bringing these recruiters into a smaller class setting, I was able to network with many employers and form relationships in time for the ACES Career Fair. I am unbelievably thankful for the opportunities that this class has provided me with, and the skills that it has taught me.
